Why convert JPEG to GIF?

GIF is lossless, so converting from JPEG won't compound any quality loss on future edits — though it can't restore detail JPEG's lossy compression already discarded. The main reason to convert JPEG to GIF is compatibility: GIF opens in every browser, image viewer and design tool without a plugin, while JPEG doesn't always. If you're sharing a file with someone else, sending it to a tool that expects a specific format, or archiving it for the long term, GIF is usually the safer target.

Frequently asked questions

Is converting JPEG to GIF free?

Yes — the first 50 conversions every month are free on any plan, including JPEG to GIF.

Will I lose quality converting JPEG to GIF?

GIF is legacy animated/static format with limited color depth, still widely used for short loops. We use the highest-quality encoder settings by default so visual or data loss is minimized.

Do you keep a copy of my file?

No, not by default. You choose a retention window at upload — immediate, 1 hour, 24 hours or 7 days — and the file is permanently deleted after that.

What is JPEG?

Compressed photographic format, the web's default for photos.

Will my converted file have a watermark?

On the Free plan, GIF output includes a small "Converted with Convyx" mark. Pro ($9/mo) removes it, along with the 25 MB file size cap.

What happens if a conversion fails?

You get a clear error message and the job is marked failed in your history — we never silently drop a file. Retry is one click, and nothing is charged against your quota for a failed job.
