Why convert MP4 to WebM?

Both MP4 and WebM use lossy compression, so the conversion mainly changes compatibility, not quality. The main reason to convert MP4 to WebM is compatibility: WebM plays back smoothly in browsers and on mobile without a codec pack, while MP4 doesn't always. If you're sharing a file with someone else, sending it to a tool that expects a specific format, or archiving it for the long term, WebM is usually the safer target.

Frequently asked questions

Is converting MP4 to WebM free?

Yes — the first 50 conversions every month are free on any plan, including MP4 to WebM.

Will I lose quality converting MP4 to WebM?

WebM is open, royalty-free video format built for the web. We use the highest-quality encoder settings by default so visual or data loss is minimized.

Do you keep a copy of my file?

No, not by default. You choose a retention window at upload — immediate, 1 hour, 24 hours or 7 days — and the file is permanently deleted after that.

What is MP4?

The default web and mobile video container.

Will my converted file have a watermark?

On the Free plan, WebM output includes a small "Converted with Convyx" mark. Pro ($9/mo) removes it, along with the 25 MB file size cap.

What happens if a conversion fails?

You get a clear error message and the job is marked failed in your history — we never silently drop a file. Retry is one click, and nothing is charged against your quota for a failed job.
